Just a Thought {2}

I've always had the biggest fear of putting myself out there. I guess you could say I'm a perfectionist. When it comes to my blog posts, I mostly try to play it safe. Stay in my bubble as I like to say.
{If I didn't have such a large yard, I'd seriously be cutting my grass like this}

I'm a writer. I adore the feeling of my blue ink pen trailing a page, my words forming on the paper. The way a page looks as my imagination takes life, becoming something for all to see. Its an amazing feeling, but its also terrifying to me. Its something that I cover up.

I hide my writing for a reason. I am frightened that someone will tell me that I'm not any good, that I am worth nothing, that I should drop it and not ever pick up a writing utensil again.
When I write, I always have my radio playing. Don't ask why, it just gives me inspiration sometimes, so I leave it on. I was thinking about this the other day, wondering if I should ever post some of my poems on my blog. My heart kept telling me yes, get over your fear and do it but my head kept yelling at me, what a stupid idea. You know you are only going to be informed that you are a failure.

Just then, that song Do Everything by Steven Curtis Chapman came on my radio and the chorus hit me like never before.
Do everything you do to the glory of the One who made you
Cause He made you to do
Every little thing that you do to bring a smile to His face
And tell the story of grace
With every move that you make
And every little thing you do

And that put me to thinking, why am I trying to please man, when I am supposed to be trying to please God? My writings are never anything that would put God to shame, so I have nothing to be worried about! As long as I continue to bring Glory to my Savior, I am never a failure.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24

Its going to take some time to completely convince myself to not care about others opinions, but I'm going to work on it. In the meantime, I'm going to start posting some of my writing. Maybe I am horrible, maybe I'm better than I think, I don't know, and I don't really care. All that matters is I'm going to please God with what I do, and isn't that what matters in the end?

~Peace, love, mockingjay pin~

  2. send me that mockingjay pin, girl ;)

    can i even stress how spot-on this post was? in the past three days, i have started and then deleted five drafts alone because i was afraid the content would scare half of my readers away! and oh... i work on those poems everyone sees for at least a week before they even make it to the blog.
    so, don't worry! i am sure your poetry is something worth reading, and i cannot wait to read it.

    by the way, i just wanted to say that you, dear, are an inspiration to me. you encourage me daily with your comments, and i thank you. *insert internet hug*

    Jessica: Your comment totally just made my day :)) I'm serious. You are such an amazing blogger, and to think that little ol' me can give you inspiration just gives me butterflies :) You make me want to send you a mockingjay pin as soon as I get one ;)
    Oh, and please don't feel sorry for the "long, rambling comments". I absolutely love them :)

  4. It's like you've read my mind! I know how you feel, it's so difficult when someone wants you to share your writing or something. And I always listen to music when writing! There's something about it that's so comforting and motivating! :) xx

  5. Hi JesusChick! :)

    Girl, post those writings! :) I'd love to see them! I really like your blog--especially those Smile a Little Monday posts. :) You make me smile! Everything I've seen of your writing is awesome! Keep it up! :)
